How this works
Every number is a standings point from NHL data — two for a win, one for an overtime or shootout loss, regular season only. Current trend plots each team's running points total after every game of the current season; it switches to a new season once all 32 teams have played games, so opening week doesn't produce a chart of one-game lines. 5-year trend plots each season's final points total for the five seasons up to and including the current one; a season still in progress is drawn as a hollow dot at its full-season pace (points per game × games scheduled), labelled as a pace. Utah's franchise began in 2024-25, so its line starts there. Head-to-head history (two teams only) shows each club's share of the regular-season games the two played against each other, season by season. A game counts as a win for whoever won it, in regulation, overtime or a shootout, so the two bars in a season always add up to 100%. In the summary up top, a playoff spot means a top-three place in the division or a wild card in that morning's NHL standings; game times are the arena's local time, and the channels are the ones the NHL schedule lists.
