What This Is
A project to build the funnest possible hockey stats site — stats the way fans want them: interactive, packed with visuals, and filled with context so that the numbers make sense.
It has dashboards for every NHL team and player. Compare anyone, or any team, against their recent past, or against their peers; find trends; visualize them. Who's rising this year? Who's dropping? Whose shot got faster? Who slowed down? Who shows up in the playoffs? Who were the steals in recent drafts — and the busts? How does Alex Ovechkin compare to Rocket Richard? Quinn Hughes to Lane Hutson? Are the Sharks getting better in the faceoff circle; spending more time in the offensive zone; scoring more goals? Find the answers here — and build charts with them that you can share on social media.

It's built and maintained by Alex Panetta, a 28-year journalist now getting a master’s in AI Management during a career sabbatical. The Numbers
Everything is fetched from the NHL's public API by an automated pipeline — no estimates, no hand-entered stats. Goal totals reconcile to public NHL accounting. Status paragraphs are generated from fixed rules applied to the data, so the words can never outrun the numbers. This prototype is frozen on a real, completed season to demonstrate the loop.

Connect To Your AI
The Trend Line speaks MCP (Model Context Protocol) — the standard that lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT plug into live data sources. Add the connector and ask your AI things like "are the Canadiens still ahead of last year's pace?", "which goalie has the best save percentage this season?", or "compare the Bruins' last four years" — and it answers from the same numbers on these pages, cited back to this site.
Under the hood, it's already AI-readable: every chart is driven by open JSON you (or your AI agent) can fetch directly — per-team season files with game-by-game pace, player totals and team metrics, each listing its NHL API source URLs — and an llms.txt file describes the whole site to AI crawlers and answer engines.
